A car that drives straight until you step on the brake pedal is giving you a useful clue. The problem probably isn't a basic alignment issue on its own. Something changes when you apply the brakes, causing one side of the vehicle to slow down harder than the other. Drivers usually notice the steering wheel tug left or right during medium or hard braking. Sometimes the pull is mild at first and gets stronger as the brakes heat up. Other times it shows up suddenly after a caliper, hose, pad, or suspension component starts sticking or wearing unevenly. A Sticking Brake Caliper Can Make One Side Work Harder Brake calipers squeeze the pads against the rotors when you press the pedal.
